Tokyo already feels like a long time ago. This is from April when contortion and going to temples was all that mattered. More often than not, these days, I am able to look into the past with appreciation instead of longing. Most of my life was spent wanting to get back to some imagined since of security. I look back now and think—this is a beautiful memory. And that is something I could not do very often while I was drinking. Freedom is finding out that we are enough. It is realizing our power. There are people who would love nothing more than to watch us back down from this power again and again. But then there is nothing sweeter than standing up to them. We each have a voice—we do. And that’s all I can think about. So tonight I ran a bath, took this portrait and turned off the lights.
